Harris County Department of Education’s (HCDE) CASE For Kids program is a regional after-school broker, working with hundreds of local organizations and school districts to provide quality after-school programming to tens of thousands of students each year. CASE for Kids runs a countywide debate league in partnership with the Houston Urban Debate League and offers a regional robotics tournament for local school districts called the All Earth Ecobot Challenge. Running one of the largest and oldest 21st Century After-school federal grants in the region, CASE is in need of program specialists to support after-school programs at 10 locations around Harris County. After-school program specialists enjoy part-time work during the week, on weekends and during the summer in a fulfilling field. Work is typically 3-4 hours a day and requires a high school diploma or GED.

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate and implement activities for the division’s Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Communities Learning Center (CCLC) Texas ACE grant at designated campus. Assure that students received educational and enrichment opportunities outside school hours, including before and after school, weekends, and summers.

 
Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Project-Based Learning Associate Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate key aspects of CASE for Kids Project-Based Learning initiatives and events. Contribute to the design and review of project materials, facilitate input for project design from clients and colleagues, and conduct outreach to help inform division decisions on how to support school districts. Spearhead efforts to support out-of-school time project-based learning initiatives of collaborating school districts. Provide guidance to Project-Based Learning Assistants. Support 1-2 Saturday events a month.

 
Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in related field
  • Degree in Education, Social Work or Public Administration or related area of study preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically, MS Excel, and MS Word
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under time constraints

Experience:

  • Experience in coordinating small to large scale projects

Project Coordinator-Project Based Learning Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Work with the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment for Kids (CASE for Kids) Manager, staff, and partnering districts and organizations, and CASE for Kids contractors to coordinate the development, documentation, logistics and integration of special projects and initiatives serving Harris County youth enrolled in afterschool programs. Special projects include, but are not limited to, the All-Earth Ecobot Challenge (an elementary and middle school robotics competition)Level Up Houston and the Kids’ Day Series (project-based learning initiative based on STEM careers). Identify and recruit both corporations and afterschool programs to participate in CASE for Kids special projects. Coordinate and host community planning meetings and gather data in relation to implementation of special projects and initiatives.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead implementation of multiple events including but not limited to, the All-Earth Ecobot Challenge, Level Up Houston and the Kids’ Day Series, and out-of-school time project-based field experiences.
  • Develop and document the CASE for Kids project-based learning model for corporate engagement, project planning and event coordination. Using the All-Earth Ecobot Challenge as division standard, create and package a project-based learning model that can be replicated for use in multiple content areas.
  • Coordinate the collaborative efforts by managing correspondence, coordinating meetings, and hosting events. Develop, lead and coordinate all logistics for culminating special events related to division special project work.  Develop project coordination procedures to ensure a division standard for operations.
  • Research, identify, and cultivate business/corporate collaborators and sponsors for CASE for Kids special projects / initiatives. Working with division leadership, initiate corporate engagement strategies and conduct outreach to secure corporate/business partners.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to the local afterschool community to develop new audiences and participants for the division special projects / initiatives.
  • Plan and monitor project budgets, manage contracts and ensure compliance with internal regulations and procedures. Correspond routinely with community partners and manage details related to resource sharing, and collaborative agreements.
  • Conduct site visits and mentoring of collaborating project contractors.
  • Serve as liaison between corporate, business and nonprofit partners, special event sponsors, community collaborators, volunteers, donors, school districts, campuses, HCDE divisions and CASE for Kids.
  • Liaison with community partners in data collection for special projects/initiatives and prepare project reports.
  • Assist division and HCDE staff with developing marketing strategies and products to market special projects/initiatives to the community. Ensure projects are documented thoroughly via division platforms including but not limited to, meeting minutes, podcasts, printed materials, and social media.
  • Assist the division and HCDE staff in fund development efforts.
  • Develop and administer trainings and community presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
